I just installed ubuntu 11.10 Oneiric Ocelot on my old trustworthy Thinkpad T42p with the specs below :
Intel Pentium M Dothan 755 1.7GHz
2GB DDR PC-3200
ATI FireGL T2 Mobility 128MB
Thinkpad 11a/b/g Wireless Card
After exploring the system for a while, i see so much GUI resemblence between Oneiric and OSX (such as Ubuntu's unity 3D compares to OSX Lion's mission control, the new revamped nautilus vs. Finder, Ubuntu One vs. iCloud, etc.). And i think there's so much graphics improvement for this ubuntu release, therefore much heavier compiz environment than previous build (10.04 Lucid Lynx). As expected from Thinkpad compatibility with linux, everything works out of the box, including wireless, sound, graphics, bluetooth, APM and even the ultranav drivers =). But the weird thing is that on the system info, Oneiric states that "Graphics is Unknown" despite the lspci command from terminal shows that ATI M10 is recognised as graphics controller (VESA Compatible).
